Allen Zewen Yu (b. 1994, Henan Province, China) is an artist and landscape designer currently living and working in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to the United States in 2014 and earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2017 at Oklahoma State University. For nearly a decade, Yu worked as a landscape architect, developing an interest in materiality, spatial relationships, and the ways objects and environments shape one another. He began working in ceramics in 2019 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art.

His ceramic practice considers displacement, belonging, and cultural exchange through vessels and sculptural objects that function as carriers of memory and markers of place. Drawing from his experience within the Asian diaspora, Yu explores how cultural knowledge moves across geographic and historical boundaries, and how traditions are transformed, absorbed, and reinterpreted through unequal relationships of power. His work often combines wheel-thrown and altered forms with hand-built elements, bringing together references to Asian ceramic traditions with contemporary sculptural language.
